Privacy Policy

Overview

Trailmark is designed with privacy first. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or track you across apps. Everything stays on your device.

Data we collect

Location data — GPS coordinates are collected only while you are actively recording a hike. This data is stored exclusively on your device and is never sent to our servers.

Photos — Photos you take at waypoints are stored locally on your device. They are never uploaded without your explicit action (e.g. sharing a hike).

Profile information — Your name and bio are stored locally using iOS UserDefaults. We never see this information.

App usage — We do not collect analytics, crash reports, or usage statistics of any kind.

Data storage

All hike data, waypoints, photos, checklist items, and your profile are stored exclusively on your device using iOS local storage (UserDefaults and the Documents directory). Nothing is uploaded to any server.

Third-party services

Weather — Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) receives your approximate GPS coordinates to return local weather conditions. Open-Meteo is an open-source service that does not store or sell user data. See their privacy policy at open-meteo.com.

Maps — Apple Maps (MapKit framework) is used for the live map and route display. This is governed by Apple's privacy policy at apple.com/privacy.

In-App Purchase — Purchases are processed by Apple's StoreKit. We receive only a confirmation of the transaction from Apple, never your payment details.

Permissions we request

• Location (When In Use) — Required to record your GPS route while hiking.
• Camera — Required to take photos at waypoints during a hike.
• Photo Library — Required to save waypoint photos and select a profile picture.
• Motion & Fitness — Used to measure relative elevation gain via the barometric altimeter.
• Notifications — Optional. Used only for streak reminders you enable in Settings.

Children's privacy

Trailmark is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your rights

Since all data is stored on your device, you have full control. Delete the app to permanently remove all data. There is no account to delete — we hold nothing on our end.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.

Agreement

By downloading or using Trailmark, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Use of the app

Trailmark is licensed for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not reverse-engineer, copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from any part of the app.

Safety

Trailmark is a journaling and navigation aid — it is not a safety device. Always carry appropriate equipment for the terrain and conditions. Tell someone your planned route before hiking in remote areas. Do not rely solely on Trailmark for navigation. We are not responsible for any injury, loss, or damage arising from outdoor activities.

GPS accuracy

GPS accuracy depends on your device, software version, and environment. Mountains, dense forest, tunnels, and buildings can reduce or eliminate GPS accuracy. Distance, elevation, and calorie figures are estimates and may not be accurate.

In-App Purchase

Trailmark Pro is a one-time, non-refundable purchase unless required by applicable law. All purchases are processed by Apple and are subject to Apple's Terms of Sale. We do not handle payment information directly.

User content

You own all content you create in Trailmark — hike records, photos, waypoints, and notes. You confirm that any content you create does not violate any applicable laws or third-party rights.

Intellectual property

The Trailmark app, name, icon, and visual identity are owned by Chmays. They may not be used without prior written permission.

Disclaimer of warranties

Trailmark is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for any particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Chmays shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the app, including but not limited to damages arising from outdoor activities undertaken while using the app.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Denmark. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Changes

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
