Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Journey & Journal ("the App"), developed by chmays ("we", "us", "our"), handles your personal information. We take your privacy seriously. This policy is written in plain language so you understand exactly what happens with your data.

What data we collect

Data you create

When you use the App, you create the following types of data:

• Journal entries and chapters — text you write or dictate about your trip.
• Voice recordings and transcriptions — audio you record and the text transcribed from it.
• Photos and videos — images and clips you capture within the App.
• Route and GPS data — your location during a recorded walk, used to draw your route on the map.
• Trip details — plan names, pace settings, stops, book title, and any other information you enter.
• Family sharing data — your chosen display name and live location shared with travel companions who have the same trip code.

Data we do not collect

We do not collect:

• Your name, email address, or any account information.
• Your precise or approximate location beyond what you explicitly trigger by starting a walk.
• Analytics, crash reports, or usage statistics sent to us.
• Payment information of any kind.
• Data from any source other than your own actions within the App.

How your data is stored

All data you create in Journey & Journal is stored locally on your iPhone in the App's private storage area. No data is sent to any server operated by chmays.

Family sharing features use Apple's CloudKit infrastructure to relay live location and trip codes between travel companions. This data is transmitted through Apple's encrypted iCloud infrastructure and is not accessible to chmays. Apple's privacy policy applies to this data: apple.com/legal/privacy.

Your data is backed up only if you have enabled iCloud Backup on your device. This backup is under your control and governed by Apple's privacy policy.

If you delete the App, all locally stored data is permanently removed from your device.

Third-party services

The App uses the following Apple-provided frameworks. These operate locally on your device or through Apple's infrastructure:

• Apple MapKit — displays maps and your route. Your location is processed locally; Apple's standard MapKit terms apply.
• Apple Speech Recognition — transcribes your voice on-device when you use the Capture feature. Audio is processed on your device and is not sent to chmays.
• Core Location — accesses your GPS position during a recorded walk. This is used only when you actively start a walk and location access is granted by you.
• Apple CloudKit — used for optional family location sharing. See "How your data is stored" above.

The App does not use any advertising networks, analytics SDKs, social media SDKs, or any other third-party frameworks that collect data.

Your rights and data control

Because all your data is stored on your own device, you have complete control:

• Access: Your data is always accessible within the App and in your iPhone's Files/storage.
• Deletion: Delete individual entries, chapters, photos, or voice notes within the App. Deleting the App removes all App data permanently.
• Portability: Export your book as a PDF at any time from the Book tab.
• Location: You can revoke location access at any time in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Journey & Journal.
• Microphone & Speech: Revoke access in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone / Speech Recognition.

Children's privacy

Journey & Journal is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us at support@chmays.app and we will address the concern promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Terms of Service

By downloading or using Journey & Journal, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

License to use

chmays grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Journey & Journal on any Apple device you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial purposes, in accordance with these Terms and Apple's App Store Terms of Service.

You may not:

• Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or sublicense the App or any part of it.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App.
• Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable regulations.
• Remove or alter any proprietary notices within the App.

Your content

Everything you create in Journey & Journal — your journal entries, chapters, photos, voice recordings, routes — belongs entirely to you. We claim no rights over your content. You are responsible for ensuring your use of the App (including content you create and share) complies with applicable law.

Disclaimer & limitation of liability

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

chmays does not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. You use the App at your own risk.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, chmays shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, so the above limitation may not apply to you in full.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of the relevant jurisdiction.

Changes to these Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
